21 February 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 21st [February 1901]. Had visits from Mlle Kwekwitsch & Mr Christie in the afternoon—the latter remained a long time discussing church & Sailor’s Institute matters. Suddenly after dinner I felt unwell & went early to bed—& the next morning sent for Dr Sacchi who when he came pronounced me to be suffering from Influenza. I remained in bed for 3 weeks daily visited by good kind Mrs Eden. She kept me supplied with novels of various kinds which was the only reading I was up to.
