17 March 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 17th [March 1901]. Had a visit from Mrs Christie who remained a long time chatting pleasantly. Amongst other things we spoke of the R.C. religion to wh she (an Italian) originally belonged. She told me that when as a girl she had been in the Convent of the Sacré Coeur she had once detected the Superior a lady of a high Roman family concealed under the steps of the confessional listening to her confession to the priest! It gave her such a shock to discover such perfidy that for a week she was as one in a dream & was almost speechless. Maria Cozzi & the 2 Montalbas Hilda & Clara came also & Mme Wiel.
