10 September 1901 — Dolobran, Haverford, Pennsylvania
Tuesday. 10th [September 1901]. Nellie went out for a ride in the morning. Pansie went away to Atlantic city to see her brother Rod play in a golf contest. After lunch Nellie & I walked to Mrs Williams’ to pay her a visit and she told us many interesting things abt the Quakers, how they never allowed any of the Society to ask for alms outside of their sect—that at their meetings women are allowed to address them as well as men at the meetings. She acknowledged that now a days all the Quakers in America used wrong grammar in saying “Do thee”—& it should be “dost thou.” We returned to Dolobran & then after having 5 o’cl tea I went out for a walk with “Sister Bettle”—quite a nice round through the grounds of another nice house & we stopped to look into a house now being built by a Mr Leslie in the wood close by Dolobran– It is in a sort of Spanish or oriental style—round a glass covered court—& we thought it wd be rather hot & useless in the summer weather. There was a thunderstorm in the evening which did not come very near. Pansie was away all day to see her brother Rodman contesting for the golf championship.
