27 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 27th [March 1902]. Better & got up after breakfast but was not up to doing much. Baroness Reinelt called for me at 3 & we went together to pay a visit to Dr & Sra Giordano—they are Valdense—& very humble people. He has a great name as a surgeon here– It was rather a dreary visit as we had little in common. From there I went to see Carry Eden & found her up & on her sofa but still only taking one spoonful of milk every 3 hours. I went on to the Piazza to an antiquity shop to find two little Easter presents for Iduna & Mr Montalba & then came home to tea to which Iduna came & then at 6 Dr Sacchi came to see after me—pronounces I have a slight attack of influenza & sends me straight to bed. Today I sent a little wedding present to the Contessina Vera Papadopoli & at 2 her mother came to see me & to thank me & explain that her daughter is recovering from influenza & the marriage with Count Arrivabene now fixed for the 9th April may have to be postponed. I also had a visit from Signora Pezzè Pascolato. I had sent to ask her to come & consult as to the possibility of our founding a Lending Library here. She being decidedly against it we gave it up.
