8 September 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 8th [September 1903]. Princess Christian, Princess Victoria & Miss Loch, with 3 maids & a footman arrived from Munich at 3 P.M. Connie & I received them at the door & conducted them to their apartment on the ground floor—& Miss Emily Loch to a room on the 2nd next to Connie’s. Then they had lunch served them to wh we left them alone. They had travelled all night coming straight thro’ from Munich. It was an excessively hot day. We dined at 7.30 & went out afterwards for a row on the Grand Canal. Pss Christian & I in my gondola & Connie & Miss Lock in that employed by H.R.H. rowed by old Pasquale d’Este who is a character & aspires to be literary & will spout Tasso & Dante at special request. Princess Victoria did not come out nor dine down as she was unwell & over fatigued.
