24 April 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 24th [April 1904]. We went to morning service all of us. The D. & Dss of Somerset & Capt. Beaumont left Venice. Eda & I went to the station to see them off by 2 P.M. train—& at last Eda & I are alone and I shall get a little rest which I greatly require. After all the Kaiser is coming to Venice. We went to see the Baroness Reinelt from the station. She is indignant with the Morosini & says she has guessed what has happened. The Css was mortified at the little attention paid to her by Princess Charlotte & wrote to the Kaiser to complain—begging him to come to Venice in order to reinstate her in the eyes of the world & this the Kaiser is determined to do. This may be all a romance of the Bss—but as she says “Je suis slave—je divine. Elle est capable de s’abaisser a ce point là. In the eveng Eda & I went off to the service at the sailor’s Institute & only dining at 8.30.
