Monday. 8th [May 1905]. Mrs Whitaker left & returned to London. Donna Laura Minghetti (widow of the Italian statesman) arrived from Rome to stay with me. I had not seen her for some time & since then she has been very ill. I found her as charming & gay as ever, full of go & enthusiasm & affectionate ways. She is a wonderful personality & fascinates everyone– | |
