24 October 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 24th [October 1905]. Directly after lunch we had a committee meeting of the Sailor’s Institute. That over I went to see Mrs Curtis & talked over my India trip with her. Mr C. was invisible in bed with a bad cold. I went on to see the Genl de Horsey. It was a wretched wet dark afternoon & he wanted cheering up. Ola & Miss Rome dined with me– I sent the gondola to fetch them. Arbib came & brought little Olpes girl who played the piano. Mr S. Cocks telegraphed from Padua that he had missed his train & could not arrive in time—so Sra Olpes played the whole evening & was much applauded. The wet night kept many friends from coming to hear her & to see bid me goodbye.
