28 July 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 28th [July 1907]. I went to morning service & Mme Wiel came to lunch with me– She is on her way to see her brother at Aix les Bains. Old Genl de Horsey has just returned to Venice from Hyères more blind than ever but in wonderful spirits. he came to tea with me & we went out together in gondola to the Hospital & he sat in the garden while I went round with Sister Kate. The matron has gone to England on her holiday. Only one patient in hospital. I went to the service at the Sailor’s Institute & afterwards walked to the Arbib’s & sat with them in their court till the moon came up. The daughters were there & some girl friends of theirs. We sat round the well—chatting & eating ices. It was a pretty quiet scene & it made one sad to think the place will probably have to be sold & they will lose the old home.
