24 March 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 24th [March 1909]. I put off my reception night till today in order to have Mrs Hellman to sing. Several Italian ladies came to hear her & all were taken with her pleasant manners & admired her singing. She sang an Irish song & also a “Goodbye” with great feeling & her voice sounded well in my large centre hall. Prof. Trombini accompanied her. Mr Hellman seems a very nice man & is devoted to his wife. He is pretty well off & his wife no longer is obliged to sing for her livelihood but she likes it & he allows her to continue.
