22 September 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 22nd [September 1910]. Copied in morning in water colours Moroni’s Chastity for my illustrated catalogue. Out at 3 in gondola with Mrs Ady & Cicely to call on Princess Polignac whom we found playing the piano in her big salon. She told us one of her amusements is translating from the Greek Euripides. She also paints & is a great musician. We went from there to tea at the Humphrey Johnson’s, Pal. Contarini Madonna del Orto. It was too showery to sit out in their lovely garden so we remained in the house & a good many people came there, Lady Radnor, the Cartwrights, Ct de Montbuisson & her daughter Mme de Pourtales—Lady Jekyll, the Mckennas, Lady H. Vincent &c. I invited them all to come to tea with me tomorrow & they accepted.
