28 January 1911 — Cairo | |
Saturday. 28th [January 1911]. Today it rained heavily & the streets became deep in mud. We went to call on Princess Nazli Khanum whom I had known so well in Constantinople in old days. She has lost her looks & aged quickly as all Eastern women do—but she is as affectionate & pleasant as ever. She is a clever woman tho’ now said to be somewhat fond of intrigue & therefore rather avoided by some of the Englishmen of position here. She is a cousin of the Khedive. | |
