11 April 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 11th [April 1912]. Mme Jacquemart André came to see me in the morng and more specially to look at the pictures. She has a fine collection, I believe in Paris & is a painter. She seemed to enjoy herself & sat down opposite the different pictures to gaze at them—chatting the while. In the afternoon I had several people to tea. Old Mr Hardcastle called bringing with him an adopted son Mr Walden not an attractive individual—young not bad looking, full of himself & his own things collections, villa at Cannes &c. Lord Bury also came, de passage from Egypt, Lady Donoughmore & Mrs Whitaker. All had a look at the pictures especially a Sir John Dyer a friend of Lord Burys. A young soldier on leave from Egypt. We intended going after dinner to Lady Radnor’s evening party but gave it up as it was very cold so we played patience till 11 & then to bed.
