28 May 1912 — Mezzaratta, Bologna
Tuesday. 28th [May 1912]. Nela breakfasted with me in my room at ¼ to 8 & then went off to join Matt who took her to pass the day at Ravenna by motor. I stayed quietly with Donna Laura & Sigr Faccioli. After 5 Marchesa Talon came to call– She made out that she was the same age as Da Laura & if she was less active it is because she broke both her legs in a motor accident a couple of years ago! It was curious to see Da Laura taking care of her old friend as tho’ Mme Talon was years older than herself when in reality she is younger by a few months. Nela returned just in time for dinner after a most delightful day wh she had much enjoyed. At 11 a.m. Donna Laura & I went down to Bologna to visit Romboldi’s antiquity shop. Da L. wished to go by the tram & afterwards to walk. I insisted on our having a fly from the foot of the hill wh leads up here. So she & I walked down slowly till we got to the road & found the carriage awaiting us. We found nothing very attractive at Romboldi’s. I bought a small Sheffield plate box for 35 lire. Antiquities are now becoming very rare in Italy.
