17 July 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 17th [July 1912]. Sigr Arbib came to lunch & brought his daughter Bianca Nahum Vais who has just arrived from Tripoli. She has been there ever since she married & has seen the whole Italian occupation—has worked to help the Italian population wh consists mostly of Jews & has so overtired herself that she is quite exhausted. I persuaded her to go for a short rest to our Hospital, & I called for her at 4 o’cl & took her over there in my gondola & left her there. I went afterwards to see Sigra Malagola and sat with her a little while. To the Piazza to see if a parasol handle was ready at the jewellers wh I had ordered. Sigr Boni produced it & insisted upon making me a present of it. It has 2 little rings of diamonds set round an ebony handle & one diamond on the very top. I must now order something so as to make up but it is very kind of Sigr Boni to offer it to me—& so Italian.
