1 September 1912 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Sunday. 1st September [1912]. Rained again & we had to go to morng service in the motor. After lunch Vere & I painted & practically finished our scene. After tea I walked to the church with Blanche. Mme de Neuflize & Edward went there in motor. The former did not understand a word of the service which must have been rather trying to her. Blanche & I accompanied by Bertie’s little terrier “Scruff” whom we had left at the Park lodge walked back after church round by the Fiddown lodge & it was quite dark before we got in just in time to dress for dinner. In the evening we sat in the best drawing room. Vere played the pianola & the rest of us puzzled out wordspelling in french & english till bed time.
