6 January 1863 — Uffington House, nr. Stamford, Lincolnshire
Tuesday. 6th [January 1863]. The Musgraves and Ivor left today– I had my celebrated put back game before they went– Directly they were off I went & helped Felicia to get the rooms tidy and we were at it when Evy & Aboyne came– They had ridden over and stayed lunch– Soon after lunch they left & I drove the M in the basket carriage to Stamford, we went to a curiosity shop & got a little china and also some stuff for a dress for me to wear at the Stamford Ball. On our return from the drive we found Kate & Cecil—Lord & Lady Suffield—Mr & Miss Stopford—Frank Smith—Tony Hamond—Miss Davidson—Con: Reynardson—Mr Hurrold & John Welby had all arrived. We had tea in the saloon and were rather late as we waited for Kuhe who came rather late. Kuhe played to us all the eveng wh was delightful. I slept with the M.
