12 March 1863 — Exeter House, Roehampton
Thursday. 12th [March 1863]. Got up at 11. and wrote letters in my sitting room till half past twelve. I then dressed to go to town—it was a very wet day. The M took me in to lunch with Mrs Hambro & left me to call for me at 3½. Mr & Mrs Hambro, their brother Val & Miss St Quentin made the party. Just as we finished lunch Montie & Napier Sturt made their appearance having just been to breakfast with the Dion Boucicaults. They stayed talking till 3½ when Mr & Mrs Hambro went out & Montie persuaded me to go for a walk with him. We went out together up Bond St and he took me to Hunt & Roskell and bought me a bracelet—it is lovely being a gold band with a centre piece consisting of alternate rows of diamonds & turquoise– From Hunt & R’s we went to Longs & were just proceeding on our walk when we found the M. had come to fetch me so I & Monty got in to the carriage & he went with us as far as Hill St where he left us & we picked up the Glyns. We did not however bring Mr Glyn with us—he came by train. When we got home we had tea in the schoolroom & dressed for dinner which we took next door at the Du Canes– In the eveng we worked & talked and I played a little. Bed at 12–
