30 November 1863 — Dowlais House, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan
Monday. 30th [November 1863]. Was awfully late for breakfast. Directly after we went to the schools; first to the girls’ & then to the boys we stayed there till after 12, and till lunch I employed myself dog puzzles. Directly after lunch we started off to see the works and went all over them. We saw iron puddled—cut sawed, rolled & made into rails & we went to the top of a blast furnace, we saw the Merthyr Guest engine & so many things that I cannot enumerate, then after lookg at the old works we went to the Ivor Works where we saw the same things over again and did not get home till 5. Mrs Clark & I played a small duet before T and then I did a little work. Mr Menelaus & Mr Williams (the agents) dined and after dinner the M & Mrs Clark went to the night schools. Mr Thomas, Schr, Menelaus & Connie played billiards. I worked, played and sang, all the eveng—to bed at 12.
