19 May 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Thursday. 19th [May 1864]. Got up rather late & was very much tired from the last night’s ball. Practised Hallé. Blanche, Con: & Temmie went to lunch with Lady Rawlinson & Mankie came here to lunch. Wrote cards & went out driving. Blanche came just as we were starting so we took her with us. At abt 5 we brought her in & went out to do some other commissions. We had dinner at 7. Ly Rawlinson, Mr Glyn & Richard dined here & afterwards those 3 & I went to the opera having IBG’s box. The M. dined out at Sir John Trollopes. The Opera acted was “Falstaff” and pleased me exceedingly—very pretty light music & Titiens singing was delightful. We came away immediately after it and came out by the side door & then we had not to wait a moment for the carriage. Rd & Mr Glyn put us into the carriage & returned to Roehampton by train. Got home soon after 11 abt ¼ hour after Con: & the M. had started for Mrs Rowley’s ball. The Somers & Mr W. Welby called also Cte de Lubersac.
