4 June 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Saturday. 4th [June 1864]. I got up at 9 intending to have a singing lesson early but before I was dressed Con: rushed up to fetch me to Schira so dressing anyhow I went down & had ½ hour’s lesson. I heard Kuhe give Constance a lesson & then went over to see Susan H who was not up so I went & sat some time with her in her bedroom. After lunch I played for Ivor & Kate sent me up some flowers wh I arranged. At 3 Blossett came. At 4 I went off in IBG’s phaeton. We went 1st to Philips & then to Waterloo Station where EK & Blanche met us & we went to Canford. We arrived at 9½ & found Luffs poney carriage waiting. Blanche & I sat in the rumble & IBG drove. On the bridge he dropped the whip & had to get down to fetch it wh frightened EK dreadfully. We found the house in gt confusion all the carpets up, some of the windows being enlarged so they put me in Montys room & B in Merthyrs. We dined in the smoking room. To bed pretty early– We found Luff was ill with a strained hand.
