3 June 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Friday. 3rd [June 1864]. A pouring wet day. Went to No. 14 to have an Italian lesson. Went to lunch with Minnie Balfour leaving a note for IBG for Ld Digby in Bel: Sqr. Found Minnie & Lilly at lunch. At 3 I came home dropping Minnie in Lowndes Sqr. Mrs C. FitzWilliams called. The M kept us waiting a long time & at 5 we went to Mrs Murrays & then to tea at Monty’s rooms & found Lady Felmer & Ly A. Murray, Mrs Darner & Hippy, The Hambros, Mr E. Bourke, Mr F. Villiers, Monty Corry & after Mr Jam Buckeley & Minnie Balfour. We had strawberries & T & then J. Buckly sang “Beautiful Duck!” & then Monty sang. Blanche also & Connie. I played a gallop & they tried to dance. Schr, the M & Connie went to dine at the Hussey Vivians & then to Ly Rowleys concert & Schr came & fetched me to go to Lady Hoares ball in Piccadilly. The first person I saw there was Tony Hamond & I danced with him. I then went to see the supper wh was in the next house belonging to Tod Heatley & connected with the ballroom by a corridor running across a court yd from one window to another. As there was a great crush I got under the care of Minnie Ark: until the M & Con came. I then perambulated the corridor with Minnie until she went to supper with IBG & I again danced with Tony H. I then went up the corridor with Alice Corry & there contemplated with disgust Lady My Craven painted up to her eyes flirting with C. Vivian. In the corridor we met Danby Seymour who took us to supper in a small room & Tod Heatley superintended the arrangements. We drank champagne cup out of a large glass barrel. We returned to the dancing & I danced a quadrille with Monty Corry & we then went home it being just 3.
