2 June 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Thursday. 2nd [June 1864]. Down pretty late. In the afternoon I went out driving with the M. to order our dresses for the State Ball on the 10th & to buy a wreath at Forsters for tonight. I bought black & red cherries & pear blossoms with a tiny hummingbird stuck in the midst & wore a blue tulle dress. I put up a lot of flowers fm Canford before I went out. At abt 10 a few people began to come to our drum wh I thought a most dull affair. Hallé came & played 3 times in the course of the evening & Mr Rivers sang & then Miss Conner. Miss Corry came with her brother Monty & was most amusing. Mr & Mrs Hippy Damer & Ly Winchester came & heaps more. To bed at 1.
