10 June 1864 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Friday. 10th [June 1864]. Rose betimes & hurrying through dressing & breakfast we prepared to leave for town. Just as we were starting I could not find my shawl & was just going without when Blanche found it. We went to the station in Luffs poney carriage & Ivor terrified Miss Kemble by pulling down the reins & letting the poney guide itself wh it did past waggons & round corners with out the least guidance. We had a very shaky journey up, got in at abt 3 to lunch. After lunch I went to lie down but Lady Louisa Ponsonby called & some others so that it was 5 before I got upstairs when I went to sleep. I woke at ½ past 7 with a very bad headache. Mr Jenkins & Blossett came to 5 T. I tried to dress for the court ball as soon as the dresses arrived from Mrs Murray’s & just as I got my hair done I was so very sick that I was obliged to lie down again & the M. & Connie went on & left me to come with Ivor if I felt better but he was obliged to go without me & I went to bed & Elizabeth slept in my room.
