13 June 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Monday. 13th [June 1864]. I & Connie went to lunch with the Vivians in Belgrave Sqr & met Graham & Arthur V. besides a nephew Mr Craig. We went there in Ivors brougham & there was a thunderstorm when we went. After lunch Connie drove me home in the poney carriage. We found all the Pigou’s calling & they brought Connie some bangles. Lady L. Ponsonby came to T & brought Ethel & May. Maria came & brought Alice & the infant. Lady G. Ashley & Fraulein came with little Peggie. We gave the children T. We went to the Caledonian ball & the 1st persons we saw were Monty & Val H. We stood on the stairs while the Princess came up & then went into the ball room & tried to see the quadrilles danced but the crush was such as we were forced to give up the attempt & then struggled out & went to Ly Egerton of Tattons where her drum was just over. We went home after stopping there abt ½ hour. Ivor went to Southampton for the day & came back with Arthur.
