1 July 1864 — 11 Cavendish Square
Friday. 1st July [1864]. I had been very sick in the night and did not get up all day until nearly 5 oclock in the evening. I then went straight to Monty’s rooms to T. We had Maurice Portman, F. Villiers, E. Bourke, H. Damer, Susan H. & Helen St Quentin. Mrs Newton & Mrs Bentinck did not come as they had promised– To day is my 21st birthday and I have had a good many presents. A gold head piece from the M. Earrings and a cross from the boys. An emerald & diamond ring from Arthur. Conty & Eda Ashley came to lunch & came to see me up in my room.
