16 January 1865 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Monday. 16th [January 1865]. A very busy day. I had to change from the Boudoir room to the little boot room under the stairs & B & C. to the sitting room. I arranged 2 new writing tables in the library & did other things. At 2 Kate & Cecil arrived & the Damers & Monty & Freddy Villiers. They lunched in the smoking room. Susan Hambro came at 1 oclock. We went to the racquet court & I took The Villiers up to the garden where we eat apples– At about 7 people began to arrive. The Felmers—Mr & Mrs C. Gurney. The Nelsons came earlier—Graham Vivian, Lady E. Hankey, Miss Pennefather, Mr Dyke (Sat near FV at dinner). We had some singing in the evening & went to bed comparatively early. I slept with Maria.
