31 January 1865 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Tuesday. 31st [January 1865]. Down at 10. After breakfast I did Bible reading in Ivor’s sitting room & then went to Blanches room where I sat working till past 1 while B. read to me “Hallam”– At ½ past one Vea, Conty & Eda, Lady E. Bertie & Miss (Pinky) Brown arrived. Ivor & Schrei. had gone out shooting so we went in to luncheon at 2. After lunch we went to see the salmon-hatching in the conservatory & the Nineveh Court. Then to the printing press & telegraph—then to Montys room, Merthyrs room & finished up with the kitchen. We returned to the hall in the gallery of wh we found Blanche & Eda– B. played & sang—& then Miss Brown sang. She sang most beautifully & at 4 Ivor came in. We had T in the Hall & then more singing by Miss B & Ivor in the gallery & at 6 they all departed. I then went with Blanche & Ivor & printed off the 300 copies of Pages 5 & 7 & had just time to dress for dinner & write to Temmy. Ivor also expressed his intention of taking me to Paris tomorrow wh he at dinner time confirmed & directly after dinner I went to order the packing. I played a little Faust & then went to see Ivor print—trying to do the red lines round the page. I then went to bed & when undressed went to kiss Blanche & called in the schoolroom where I found Ivor still & then we dispersed for the night.
