2 February 1865 — Paris | |
Thursday. 2nd February [1865]. I got up again at abt 12 & at 1 we had some food in the general room & went out, we took a fiacre & taking Luff with us drove to the Pourtalè’s Hotel to see the great collection. We however were told to go to the end of the fala and we should be admitted in our turn– However we gave it up in disgust & leaving Luff to try his luck I & Ivor went off to the Embassy to get the Clay’s address & then took a fiacre & drove to 37 Avenue des Champs Elysées. We found Gertie in but she was not very cordial & as a Mr Brook Greville came in to call we shortly departed and walked up the Place de la Concorde & thro’ the Tuilleries Gardens home. I got some Café and rested & wrote letters till 7 when we went out to dine at The trois frères in the Palais Royal. After dinner we walked round & round the Palais Royal looking at the shops & buying heaps of things and we did not come in till quite late. | |
