3 February 1865 — Paris | |
Friday. 3rd February [1865]. I received a note from Gertie asking us to dinner wh we accepted. After breakfast we started to see the Louvre and spent a long time examining the pictures wh were most delightful, especially the Reubens of wh there are a gt number. We came in after 2 and had some refreshment & then went to see the Madeleine church & from there to Notre Dame wh latter greatly disappointed me. We saw all the trésors and priests vestments etc. and came in at 5. At 6 we dressed (Demi toilette) and went to dine with the Clays at 7. Met Messrs Lascelles, D. Connelly, Blount & Smith, all attachés except Smith, a lawyer. After dinner Gertie & I had a long talk & when the gentlemen came we had songs and whist. We staid till after 12 & came home– To bed. | |
