13 February 1865 — Ashburton Cottage, Roehampton
Monday. 13th [February 1865]. I worked in the morng & talked to Alice when at 12 the M. came rushing in to tell me I must immediately go off to town wh I did. I went by train & met Mr Somes & he assisted me. We then drove to Langham Hse which on account of the snow & frost took us some time. I left Monk at Langham House & went to 7 Upper Portland Place to try & see little Nellie Alderson but found everyone out, so I saw Collins & gave her a hood. I then went back to Langham Hse & fetched Monk & went to the Paddington Station where I met Edward Hutchins & got into a carriage & just at the last moment the M. came & we went to Beenham. We got in at 5 & had tea. Connie & the Berties did not come today. Mrs & Mr Bushnell (the clergyman & wife) dined & after dinner we had some singing & we went to bed at 11.
