Saturday. 24th [July 1869]. We went down to Aldermaston. Met at Pad: Sta: also going to Aldn Lord Houghton & Miss Monckton Milnes (quite young & not out, fair & pretty), Mrs Kay—Miss Du Goring & Sir Robert Collier. We arrived at abt 5. A very pretty red brick & stone house & standing in a most lovely Park. After tea we took a walk up the lime grove wh was sweet almost to sickliness with blossoms & there was quite a loud hum of bees wh were gathering honey over our heads. | |
