26 August 1869 — Baveno | |
Thursday. 26th [August 1869]. A very hot close day. After lunch (abt 3) went out for a walk. We went to the church and were going on up the hill when we found the sun too powerful and we turned back and went in. The Viglianis left this morning. After dinner we intended to take a row on the lake but the wind rose suddenly and the clouds gathered with every appearance of a storm. We sat on the terrace & talked & had coffee. We wrote letters to day but have recd none since we came here. | |
