19 September 1869 — Vicenza
Sunday. 19th [September 1869]. Cortelazzo turned up as arranged & directly afterwards we went to his house & were recd by his wife a very nice civil person. We looked at all C’s drawings, designs, &c, & saw the clock he is making for Mr Spottiswoode & wh is to cost £1000. We saw where he worked (with the help only of one boy) and then we went to the Picture Gallery & some churches & the day being lovely & the weather like summer we drove out of the town up to Monte Berico where we went into the church & former convent and where there is a magnificent view all over the plains looking down on Vicenza & Padua in the distance. We dined early & C. with us and then we drove to the station & went back to Padua to rejoin Hill. Slept at Padua.
