20 December 1869 — Madrid
Monday. 20th [December 1869]. Was rather late this morning. The papers announced to us Felicia’s having got a girl on 16th & Adeline a boy on the same day. I wrote letters to both. At ½ past 2 we went out in the carriage leaving cards & took a turn on the Prado but did not stay out long as it was rainy & muddy. We spent a deal of time arranging the drawing room & have the prints & portiéres put up. At 5 we had a visit from Cerruti the Italian minister & M. Gisbert the head of the customs—they paid us a long visit. After dinner I prepared an exercise for the Spanish master who gives me a lesson every other day, after this I played & sang & Henry played the flute.
