26 January 1870 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 26th [January 1870]. I took a Spanish lesson & wrote letters in the morning. In the afternoon we walked & drove. At 7 we dined at the Marquises de la Vega de Armijo. A great dinner given expressly for us. Met Cerruti & Marquis Gonzales there. After dinner we went to the Opera where we found the Hunts already. It was Othello & the proceeds given to charity. From there we went to Mme Bedmar’s ball. It was a great crowd & the house very small tho’ pretty. We came home early. | |
