9 April 1870 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 9th [April 1870]. My Spanish lesson & at ½ past 11 Miss Whyte came to practise the Hymns for Sunday & then I wrote part of a letter when Henry brought me some copying to do. Directly after lunch we went to the Cortes but did not hear anything interesting except an attack of Figuera’s on Rivero for not doing away with the “quintas”—& he defended himself by saying like many great men, amongst others Bright, he had changed his opinion & thought they ought not to be done away with & at this he turned round & looked at Henry. We walked home abt 5. Dined alone & I wrote & then we played a game of Mandola & I sang a little. Mr Ff: went to Seville. | |
