11 May 1870 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 11th [May 1870]. I was rather tired & did not care to go out. I wrote hard all the morning a good deal of which was copying for Henry & several of my own letters. Henry & Mrs Burr went to the picture gallery and at ½ past 3 I went in the carriage to fetch them & took them to the Academy where they went to see the Murillos. We went for a short drive & then home it being very windy. At tea we had a visit from Mr Riaño with good accounts of his wife and also a visit from Mme de la Vega de Armijo. Mess Ffrench & Ashburnham dined with us. After I had gone to bed I heard Cerruti’s voice, he had come to see Henry & to talk business. | |
