20 September 1870 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 20th [September 1870]. I went at 12 o’cl: to the Regency & worked there till 3. Saw Mlle Carmen Paz there. I fetched Emilia & brought her home & she helped over the tapestry till 5. I did not go out any more. We dined at 7 & went to Price’s circus & the Riaños with their little boy joined us. Mme Prim & children were there also Topete, the Govr of M. &c &c. The 3 musical English clowns were very amusing & one played on the rims of tumblers very well. The trapeze man was wonderful but he was at such a great height that it made me so uncomfortable I could not look at him. | |
