6 February 1871 — Madrid
Monday. 6th [February 1871]. Had a lesson from Grau & then I went off to join Henry who was sitting to Pal: We came home to lunch & afterwards we went out in the open carriage it being a most lovely warm day. We took a walk in the Fuente & coming home met the King riding a lovely horse with out any A.D.C. & 2 grooms in red livery. I came in early intending to go on drawing but the De Martinos came so when Pal came we could not draw together. They had tea & then went home Mr de M complaining of feeling very giddy & unwell. Mr Ff: came at 6 & we arranged the cotillion together & he stopped & dined & then after dinner I dressed & wore for the first time my new diamond necklace wh came last week from England. We had a great number of people to our dance & kept up till nearly 3–
