13 March 1871 — Madrid | |
Monday. 13th [March 1871]. We had the usual dinner party– The Nava de Tajos, Jooris, Mme Bauer & Mr Nicholas, the Karnickys &c &c. In the eveng several people came the Figueras Ochoas & Mme Luxan also a gentleman Herr Sonesti a pianist & we had a good deal of music & staid up late & heard rather fine, great discussions with Mme Canitz & Dubsky– Mme C wd always contradict D who talked a deal of nonsense & had great arguments declaring that the Eng: language was merely a compound of French & German. | |
