24 April 1871 — Madrid | |
Monday. 24th [April 1871]. I went to breakfast with the Dss de la Torre. Had a great discussion with her & Serrano abt the affair of Mr Ff & the Veloz Club & his not going to dine with them on Thursday & I found it impossible to smooth matters. I came away at 1½ & called for Emilia but she could not go with me but said she would come later. I went home & set to work to copy letters for the M. The Ct de Valencia called, then Mme Karnicky & also the Riaños & then Pal: came. He carried off Henry & the Riaños to see some picture. We all 4 went to dine with the Bauers meeting there the Bernars, Pal, Mr Nicholas & the Ettlings. We did not stay very late as we shall be travelling all tomorrow night. | |
