25 April 1871 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 25th [April 1871]. After breakfast I went with the M to Pals: where I remained till after 12 & Henry fetched me home– I wrote a letter to Grannie before lunch. Just at the end of luncheon Elisabeth de M– came in & sat some time with me till Mariana came & we haggled over some Point d’Argentan I wanted to buy of her & wh I would not give 1100rs for– Mr Ff came & also Messrs Seymour & Goschen to bid us good bye. Mr Sey: starts for his leave on Saty. Mme Canitz also came & Pal: & Clarita all wh took up the time till 6½ when we dined & after dinner we & the M & S went to the station & left for Cordova– There was a lovely thunderstorm just beginning as we left & for quite 2 hours the storm followed us. We made ourselves beds & slept very comfortably till on | |
