3 May 1871 — Seville | |
Wednesday. 3rd [May 1871]. The first thing in the morning we went with Mr Will. to the Cathedral & went up into a little place behind the high altar where we saw some curious pictures—but it was so dark that by the help of the taper we could scarcely see them– We also went into the Sacristy of one of the side Chapels where there are several pictures & especially one small one which Henry said was very fine & probably by Martin Schön. Mr Pickman’s carriage came & so Henry & I & Mr Will: went out driving & returned to Mr Robles to see the rest of his things wh we were interrupted seeing yesterday– We went to Marianos but bought nothing more. At Robles’ there was nothing we cared to buy. There we met a friend of Mr Gayangos a M. Bueno who asked us to go & see his house wh we did but saw nothing particular, we then went to the hotel to see the M & S before they started for Cadiz. We found that they had heard that the train was 2 hours late so they were going to dine with us at 5. After dinner they started. Hy & I went & sat in the gallery & Henry said in chaff that he was sure they would be late for their train. Sure eno’ in 2 or 3 minutes they reappeared not having been in time to get their luggage into the train. The Williams family came to see us & take leave of us & we sat in the gallery & had ices. Mr Bernar came also to see us. The M. & S intend going by the 1st train tomorrow & so went off early to bed– | |
