19 June 1871 — Bayonne | |
Monday. 19th [June 1871]. We took a walk in the town & into the Cathedral. It strikes me as so poor & unartistic after the Spanish Cath: & all the chapels have been lately painted in the most vulgar upholster kind of way tho’ the building is itself fine & well proportioned. At 11½ the Grahams paid us a visit & we went to the station then we met the Merciers & he accompanied us to Paris. We also met Blondeel who only went as far as Bordeaux. Soon after Bordeaux Mercier left the Coupé to us & we established ourselves for the night & we slept comfortably. On the morning of | |
