21 August 1871 — Würzburg
Monday. 21st August [1871]. Mrs Burr had passed a pretty good night but we begged her to keep quiet in bed which she did & Hill attended to her while Alice, Arthur, Henry & I went for a drive to see the town. We went to the Cathedral where were some very fine old monuments & to a very pretty little church called the Marienkapelle. We then drove to the station to try & find Mrs B’s box wh was missing & heard that it was at Nuremberg. In the afternoon we took a drive & at 5 we went to the station & got to Nuremberg at abt 7. There to our great astonishment we met Mr Rate who had come from Marienbad to meet his wife. We were a long time getting the luggage & sent on Mrs Burr to the Bayerische Hof to secure rooms; on arriving there we found that only 2 small rooms were to be had so Alice went back to Mr Rate & they stayed at the Wurthburger Hof. We got 2 beds put into each of our rooms & Mrs B & Arthur shared one while I & H took the other just for one night. We here met Mr Gibbs & his son & daughter en route for Ammergau. Very tired & glad to go early to bed–
