12 September 1871 — Venice
Tuesday. 12th September [1871]. Breakfasted abt 9 & soon after Sigr Cortellazzo turned up fm Vicenza. We went Henry & I, Hudson & Cortellazzo to Salviati’s shop & also to the Academy & stayed sometime looking at the pictures. They then brought me home & I wrote a letter & then they fetched me & we went to get some lunch at Florians. We rowed out to Murano & spent the afternoon at Salviati’s furnaces seeing glass blown. We went to an antiquity shop but bought nothing. We 4 dined together & then went to the Piazza– Just leaving the house we met the Prefecto Sigr Torelli & he went with us & stayed a little while & then said he would go & fetch his ladies—they were so late coming that we could not wait for them so we left them in the lurch & went home.
