20 September 1871 — Florence | |
Wednesday. 20th September [1871]. We breakfasted at 10 & soon afterwards Mrs Sloane drove Henry & me in to Florence. We went to the Anglo Italian Bank & Sir James Hudson came out to see me. We went to the church of S. Leonardo nr Florence & found the tombstones of Henry’s 2 little brothers. Mrs Sloane took me to several shops & amongst other things I bought a bonnet. We returned to the Villa in Siena for 5 o’cl: dinner & afterwards we sat out in the garden for some time. It was a deliciously warm eveng. We had tea abt 9 o’cl: & went to bed abt 10½. | |
