26 January 1872 — Madrid
Friday. 26th January [1872]. I got up late & while I was still in bed Henry brought me a lot of parcels which had arrived from England in a bag brought by Mr Goschen books, presents etc—which it was great excitement to open. Mme Dragonetti dined with us at 7 & she left at 9 having to dress for the Palace reception. Henry also went there & I went early to bed. Zorilla & 5 of his supporters were so furious with the King that they did not go to dine at the Palace tonight but sent excuses to say they were ill– They expected to have been called to the Govt & to have had the dissolution.
