5 June 1872 — Madrid
Wednesday. 5th [June 1872]. I had a headache—but still I went to breakfast with the Dss de la Torre. I found them all upside down, as they are going to move to the Presidency so directly after breakfast I returned home in a cab. After lunch Mrs B & Susan went out for a walk—& at 5 Henry & I went driving. We went to the Palace and saw the tapestry which hangs round the court yard of the Palace & wh is always put up for the Corpus. It is very curious & well preserved being most of it designed by an Italian Barba Lunga who was with Charles Vth & who made sketches of the war at Tunis– Barba lunga’s portrait is introduced quaintly into each piece– We went from the Palace to walk at the Retiro but my head got so bad that after walking for a few minutes I was obliged to ask Henry to go home. As we were driving off we perceived Mrs B & Susan screaming to us to take them home wh we accordingly did & as soon as I got in I went to bed– After dinner Mrs B & S. came to sit with me.
